One of the cool things about living in the modern hi-tech world is that there are some really smart people looking to do really amazing things. Like turning the edge of the Sahara into one huge community strip, shaping homes and buildings out of the sand itself.

Desertification makes people homeless every year in Africa as some dunes travel 600 metres a year, encroaching upon and then covering whole villages, creating new waves of refugees. The African governments that more or less function try to plant trees along this zone to hold back the sands but the people themselves are poor and often cut down the trees to get wood for fuel.

Could the dream of a mad architect like Magnus Larsson hold back the mighty Sahara?
