So what do you do all day at a Rainbow Gathering?

One of the most beautiful things about Rainbow Gatherings is all the amazing people you meet there. Beautiful freaks and travelers from all over the planet show up, all into meeting new people and making connections. Every colour of the rainbow turns up from crystal healers to ex-army quartermasters, traveling musicians to organic farmers. After a month at the Rainbow you’ll have friends far and wide across the globe to hook up with on your travels.

Between meals people run all kinds of workshops from yoga lessons to painting to drum making. The spirit is largely if you know come to teach, if you don’t, come to learn. So if you don’t like any of the workshops going on, jump up and start your own.

Rainbow Gatherings are a musician’s paradise and some amazing performers turn up to play alongside the three chord strummers. There are camp fires everywhere with pots of chai bubbling away where musicians meet to jam through the night. There are also bhajan tents (aaaaaargh!) for those who like to sing the holy songs of India over and over and over and over, and around the main fire there are often choruses of the popular Rainbow songs like Mother Earth is a Great Big Ship that We are Sailing on and We are Circling, Circling Together. But all is not lost, you can still find a gypsy violinist or a whiz on the accordion somewhere.

If you’re still wondering what to do between meals, there’s wood that needs to be gathered, vegetables that need to be chopped, pits that need to be dug, signs to be painted – go ahead, do something for the family!
