See the world on two wheels and get on your bike.
Cycling is definitely one of the best ways to travel, for lots of reasons. Most importantly, you get such a great interaction with the world, in a way you never do by using cars, buses, trains and planes. There is more time to stop and see things. People are far more likely to interact with you, offer you food, show you places. You will get – and deserve! – respect.
Also, you can actually go quite quickly on a bike, particularly on surfaced, flat roads, and it’s free, and keeps you very fit! The best thing is the flexibility – no bus driver keeping to his timetable, when you meet that Pathan arms-dealer on the side of the road offering you lunch, you just stop.
You can also go around places more easily that are not really open to foreigners – Tibet being a good example.
