Tel Aviv Travel Tips, Israel

By Roadjunky, Posted Nov 09, 2006

Tel Aviv is a good place for the traveler to hang out from the spring until the autumn when people are outside their houses and in the streets. Winter isn’t so bad here but it’s easier to meet people the rest of the year.

It’s a good place to party, hang out on the beach, or just drift through the city. There’s lots of stuff to understand and here you see all walks of Israeli life: the rich, the workers, the hippies, the immigrants.

Once you get with a circle of friends connections are easy to make and you’ll spend a lot of time drinking coffee ion the houses of friends, starting romances on the beach or going out at night.

That said it’s not the cheapest place in the world to party with prices more like North Europe than the Middle East. Israelis don’t really drink that much but even a tea or coffee can set you back a few bucks each time. You can also live quite well without spending in Tel Aviv though as falafel is still cheap, as is the food from the Carmel Shook.

When it’s warm you just hang out on the beach a lot, drift between friends’ houses and make trips to the market to buy more hummous and pitta. There’s drumming on the Dolphinarium beach every Friday and that’s a good place to hook up with new people or dance. Generally that beach is a good connection spot for the alternative scene in Tel Aviv.
