Bangkok

Travel in Bangkok

By Alex Loeb, Posted Jun 27, 2006

Bangkok is a traveler hub where people from all over the world fly in and out en route to other destinations in Asia. It is so much a place of passing people often neglect to explore the city itself. Their loss makes it all the better for those who stick around.

Much of the fun in Bangkok, a dense city with thousand of nooks and distinctive areas, is just finding your own little tucked away secret hangout. The city is horribly planned so there is no center or area that’s better than another. There is no peremiter or fringe within walking distance of anywhere, it just keeps on going as far as you’re wiling to explore.

While so much of Thailand is scenic rural villages and country side, Bangkok offers a good place to go wild. Get dressed to the hilt and rave at the new hot club that all the Thais are talking about. It is easy enough to get in the “in crowd” and attend parties with various Thai celebrities.

Travelers will usually want to soon go elsewhere but the longer one stays in Bangkok the more it will reveal. Despite the noise, the polliution and the congestion, it soon becomes easy to feel at home in Bangkok. You soon get attached to your favourite bar, noodle stall or knock off designer clothes stall.

The most expensive things in Bangkok are beer and taxi cabs but there are ways around both. The more one is comfortable in the city, the easier it is to navigate the waterways and sky trains. The more one is comfortable with Thai liquor the easier it is to get drunk off SangSum or rice liquor. If you’re feeling up to it, track down illegal Cobra blood liquor, although it’s far from safe.

Living is so cheap that it is easy to stay for long visits without working. Pass the day away reveling in the endless unique neighborhoods of Bangkok or swilling liquor with your new friends.
