The Kazakh economy is booming and there is plenty of work to be had in all spheres. Besides the usual English teaching opportunities, the oil sector employs a lot of foreign labour. All the big consulting firms are represented and a number of foreign companies have offices in Kazakhstan. Casual teaching and translation work is easy to come by. If you’ve been inspired by Borat then you might want to follow in his footsteps and take up journalism.
The local currency is fairly stable against the dollar and exchange offices are all over the place, and ATMs take most major plastic cards. If you get really desperate for money you can sell your blood – expect to get around $15.00 for blood, $30.00 for plasma, and possibly infected with HIV. If you have long hair you may be able to sell it for $500.00 a kilo!
