Guide to Georgia - Jobs, Work and Money

Nov 02, 2006 by Howard Gethin. In Guides - Georgia // Send to a friend - 0 Comments

Georgia is a fairly poor country and a lot of things are cheap, particularly food. Public transport is also not that expensive. Alcohol is cheap, particularly the local wine, which goes for about 2 Lari (a dollar) a jug.

Nice handicrafts and paintings are on sale in the Tbilisi markets. Good antique stuff is often quite dear though, as the locals have a shrewd appreciation of what things are worth.

There is very little work for foreigners, as there is lots of unemployment and a great many talented and experienced Georgians around (or Armenians!) who know the language and will work for a tiny fraction of what you will work for. There might be a bit of English-teaching in Tbilisi, or some NGO work, but that’s about it.
