Mendoza, Argentina

Mendoza is a picturesque city that lies west of Buenos Aires near the border with Chile. It has a peaceful feel, with many nice parks, lakes and trees. Mendoza is the central location for Argentina’s vineyards, and a visit to the city should definitely include winetasting.
You can ski and snowboard in the winter at Las LeƱas, or cross the nearby border to Portillo, the ski resort nestled below Aconcagua, a short drive up into the Andes. Mount Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the western hemisphere (22,000+ feet) and is one hell of a bitch to climb.
Mendoza has a wine festival called Vendimia at the beginning of March that is a fun place to go and sample the vintages. There are dancing, fireworks and of course parrillada.
