Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding developed from the 13th to 15th century. Cranes, shuriken and other animals can be created. Origami is typical of the refinement seen in Japanese culture, as also shown in their gardens, rules for social interaction and fashion sense.
After the bombing of Hiroshima, a young girl named Sadako Sasaki attempted to fold 1000 paper cranes in an attempt to overcome the cancer she fell victim to from radiation. She never finished, but her classmates finished them after she died.
