Mary Poppins in London

It's a lovely day with you, Bert

London, immortalised in Snatch as ‘London. You know: fish, chips, cup ‘o tea, bad food, worse weather, Mary fucking Poppins’, is a surprise entry in the Roadjunky top ten but it really does have a lot going for it.

For one thing, there are hardly any English living there any more –immigration has been so intense in England’s capital that now you’re hard pushed to find fish and chips anywhere, what with all the Lebanese, Turkish, Indian, Italian, Spanish, Polish and Chinese eateries everywhere.

The extension of the EU led to the latest influx of immigrants with Polish workers lining up for jobs and whilst the English are moaning about losing their jobs, the arrival of good-looking young people from East Europe has made walking down the street a good deal more pleasant.

London is fiercely expensive, particularly with the Tube charging 5 quid just to get around for the day and another 5 pounds a day if you smoke. The good news is that London is now much more friendly towards bicyclists and there are numerous ways to live rent free from squatting to buying your own canal boat.

There’s loads going on in London but the theatre and music shows do cost a packet.
