Travel in Siquijor, Philippines - Tropical Island Paradise

By M.J. Lloyd, Posted Apr 30, 2007

Siquijor is a tropical paradise. It’s a small island just south of Negros Island. You’ll need to take a ferry from Dumaguete to get there. It’s a serene little place with white sand beaches and a great tropical vibe. There are a few international tourists here in the dive resorts but nothing more than a trickle. After a while in the Philippines it can be kind of nice to talk to other travelers.

If you like to smoke weed and sit on the beach you should probably bring your supply with you – none grows on the island and the stuff for sale is pretty expensive. In fact almost nothing from the outside world can be found here, hence why there’s almost no trash. It’s really one of the best places in the world to space out and pretend the rest of the world doesn’t exist.

M.J Lloyd was born and raised on a small farm in rural Ohio. At the age of 18 he hit the road to Alaska with a meager savings and no plan. Over the next 2 years he wandered in search of real answers and a livable life. The journey has taken him through three continents, various loves, battles with the loneliness and insanity of the road, and extreme poverty. Though the lessons haven’t been easy, he has learned much from the trail, and has reached a much happier and more peaceful understanding on the nature of his life.
