Travel Health & Safety in the UK

The UK is a pretty calm place but the culture of drinking evokes the buriied resentment in the British psyche and the late night violence is evidence of this. Basically it’s just a question of not being in the wrong place at the wrong time – hanging around outside a nightclub at closing time is not a good idea. Binge drinking is very much in fashion and violence runs deep in the British gene pool.

Heroin is quite prevalent in many of the big cities and you’ll want to keep an eye on your things. Whilst mostly harmless many of the beggars in the street are junkies or alcoholics and it’s hardly ever worth giving money. This is a welfare state and the government will help them if they want to be helped.

You’re unlikely to get mugged in most of Britain but when guys get drunk they often look to take it out on somebody else. It’s ironic that while all the jokes are made about the unpredicatable anture of women’s hormones, no one stays home at night for fear of marauding young women in the street looking for a fight.

“Oi! What you looking at? Got a problem, mate?” are the kind of words you never want to hear. Picture Begbie from Trainspotting and you have the idea.
