You can make good money in most of the UK if you can get enough hours. The minimum wage is around $8 an hour so you’d need to work more than 40 hours a week to save anything.
There are employment agencies that will find you work quickly though the wages won’t be fantastic. Construction and care work both pay well.
There is a large population of Aussies and Kiwis (New Zealanders) working in England. Hook into this vein to find cheap accommodation and opportunities to earn cash like volunteering yourself for medical trials.
If you don’t have the legal right to work all is not lost. Restaurants often employ dishwashers and kitchen hands under the table. Also on construction sites things are a bit more relaxed.
Good money can be made as a merchant if you have wares to sell in the markets, especially in London. People will pull out bank notes without thinking about it if you have nice stuff. Busking and street performance can also work but you need to choose your spot well and look the part.
Otherwise a good summer job can be punting in Cambridge – the season starts around April and goes through to October.
Living like a monk it’s possible to get by in England with $800 a month, not less than $1200 in London.
