Keep in mind that photography is an art. And like any artist, a travel photographer that makes a living out of what they do is a lucky soul. Certainly to begin with, you’ll be doing well if you even manage to make ends meet. Taking photos of llamas in Peru may be where your muse is at but it’s unlikely to pay for your meals.

There are sure to be countless disappointments http://www.flickr.com/photos/okaycity/

Heading to poorer countries in the meantime with some savings is an excellent way to begin though. You can take thousands of pictures, hone your art and live cheaply in the meantime. It’s a great way to make a living from building up your own site too.

An aspiring travel photographer is not much different than an a writer or actor trying to score a breakthrough while working a day job….yet it may or may not ever come and you are sure to have countless rejections and disappointments.

There are various ways to make money with travel photography but they mostly require that you do all the legwork. The chances of you taking a golden image and living on the royalties of it forever and astronomically small. More likely you’ll make some money from stock photography, selling images from your website or self publishing.
