Editorial - Road Junky Backhandedly Endorses Barack Obama

By Roadjunky, Posted Sep 25, 2008

Obama

As depicted by Ron English

After weeks of negotiation with the Obama camp, we’ve finally agreed to support the man.

Our phones just haven’t stopping ringing for months now and we’ve decided it’s time for us to take a stand. The political pressure, the lobbying and our responsibility to our millions of readers seeking spiritual and political guidance, means we’ve decided to informally and backhandedly endorse Barack Obama for the American presidency.

After long and heated chats on the phone with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Robert De Niro, Matt Damon, George Clooney and cool graffiti artists like Ron English, we’ve finally been swayed over to the Obama camp on condition that he sets up a rehabilitation fund for old, worn out travelers across the world.

Will Barack Obama winning the presidency change anything in this world?

Well, it might make a difference to the poor sods in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere who die due to American bombs and the ensuing conflict. Likewise it would be great if he closes down the Guantanamo Bay Holiday Camp.

Seated in the White House and fenced in by economic interests of the multinationals, it might be naive to think one man can make a difference. But what is for sure is that his example will have a ripple effect that can only make the world a better place.

So much as it pains us to say something positive about a politician, Road Junky gives its blessing to Barack Obama – watch the Gallup polls for dramatic shifts as a result.

I think its a disgrace for this webpage to get political. I thought it was above such petty things, especially seeing as this website is pretty much european, why should it every consider giving advice on American politics?

Zatara, politics affects every minor detail of each and every persons life whether you realise it not not.
Political stability, foreign policy and international relations throughout the world is directly relevant to even hedonistic, self indulgent travellers, thus politics is not petty.
I would be ashamed to display such ignorance in writing for all to see.
PS, this site is obviously an American site.

Lighten up Zatara. If anything this article points out just how unconcerned with politics Roadjunky really is.

Perhaps we should have a special ‘irony’ warning for people who just don’t get it.

By the way, we love the continued assumptions that Road Junky is American. It’s in the eye of the beholder.
