Football is like a religion in Brazil. Football is one of the most democratic games in the world as the ball is all you need to play – thus even the poorest Brazilians can play and, who knows, maybe one day make it out of the ghetto.
Everywhere you’ll see Brazilians practicing keep-it-up, flipping the ball around on their thighs, chest and head, never losing control. They play hackysack with a football on the beach, standing around in a circle and keeping the ball in the air and a few of the players are likely to be female.
Then they totally embarrass anyone who’s ever played volleyball with their own beach game, futevolley – two-a-side beach volleyball played without the use of the hands. Heads, feet and shoulders are all they need to keep incredible rallies going.
When the national team plays in Brazil everything comes to a standstill. Women and men alike sit down to drink and go wild each time a goal is scored. The celebrations are much encouraged by the Brazilian government also as, just like with the Carnaval, it keeps the population distracted from seeing how they’re being screwed economically.
