The underside of society.

You’re underage, you’re beaten by your parents or you’ve developed a glue addiction and can’t fit in any more and decide to run away from home, where do you go?

For these kids they head to the southernmost point of Ukraine but the temperatures are still sub-zero in Odessa in the winter and they survive by sleeping underground, huddled together. By day they surface to beg, steal cars or salvage scrap metal to get cigarettes and cheap booze.

Film maker Antony Butts spent a week hanging around with them and the police who try to prevent them from becoming the next generation of criminals to stock the prisons.
