Want to know what it feels like to be bombed?
Some years ago we ran an interview with Brian Conley, founder of Alive in Baghdad and whereas some assumed that putting video cameras in the hands of local amateurs to report on the war would never produce quality journalism, the raw naivete of the images told the story by themselves.
Now Conley’s organisation Small World News has trained local Libyans to report on the situation there and the results are utterly absorbing. Check out this video of what it feels like to face live artillery shelling.
News sites have been ecstatic over the role social media have played in the recent revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt and while they might be exaggerating the case there’s no denying that more and more we’re gathering news from people directly without the filter of mainstream media.
