Go to Voltage, Oregon, and win soda pop and get famous by being on Road Junky. Contest expires June 1, 2009.
Since we’ve been having a bit of fun here at Road Junky with contests lately we decided to give this one a go. Mountain Dew, the soda that was an energy drink before energy drinks, is releasing a new user-selected flavor: Voltage. Voltage is a blue (as in Doctor Manhattan’s junk blue) raspberry, ginseng-infused beverage. Its power could be just the thing you need to keep awake at 3 AM in the Mexico City bus station as you can keep a watchful eye on your belongings.
Despite our better judgment, Road Junky never turns down free product samples (we should have said no the anti-malaria travel suppository). Naturally, the first thing we did when we received a promo box of the new Mountain Dew flavor was to immediately down six straight bottles. Three days later when we came to in the desert outside of Los Angeles, after the final bits of trembling stopped, we were hit with a brilliant contest idea: The First Annual Road Junky Go to Voltage to Get Voltage Contest.
Here’s how it works: the first traveler to email us a photo of themselves on the road visiting Voltage, Oregon, gets a lifetime supply of Mountain Dew Voltage. By lifetime supply we mean one case of Mountain Dew Voltage. And we might throw in a t-shirt and a copy of the travel handbook, too.
So, where exactly is Voltage, Oregon? It turns out it’s in the middle of nowhere in the eastern part of the state. Here’s a photo of the area:
Yep, that’s right. Nothing there in Voltage except a lonely road and some weird compound. No idea what’s in that set of buildings. It could be scientologists, militants, a UFO hangar, or Dick Cheney. Or it could just be a farm. If you find out for us by paying a visit in person, and email us a photo of the event (editor AT roadjunky DOT com) with Mountain Dew contest in the subject line, you get a case of Mountain Dew Voltage and we’ll place your grinning mug on the front page of the web site.
Please note: the contest expires June 1st, 2009. If you can’t get anywhere near Voltage, because you’re in South America for instance, then probably a picture of yourself near any old farm will be enough to fool us. Unless someone else figures out a craftier way to prove they actually went to Oregon, the Voltage will be all yours.
