About the Journey by Gregg Treinish
Arriving in Quito, Ecuador on June 30th, 2006 at 8:10pm. From here we will get to Papallacta, Ecuador (possibly via bus) where we will begin walking south. Along the way we plan to stay in remote Andean villages, and hike on remote Andean trails. It has long been the Andean way to travel on foot from town to town, and it is our desire to link these foot trails that have been used for centuries by local farmers and tradesmen. It is our goal to travel the entire length of the Andes south of Quito essentially creating a new South America thru-hike. We have chosen Quito as our launching point because of the turbulent political climate in the countries to the north. We plan to summit Volcan Cotopaxi, Volcan Chimborazo, Pisco, Huayna Potsoi, Illimani, Aconcagua, Volcan Vilarrica, and several other peaks along the way. After reaching Tierra del Fuego, we will begin traveling north along the eastern side of the continent.
