The virtual times are-a-changing.
Cartographers hate politics. No sooner are they done with one map then a country goes and has a revolution and changes its name, there’s a civil war dividing a country in half or all kinds of small countries suddenly demand sovereignty when a power bloc collapses.
The virtual world is even harder to keep track of and so we’re grateful to xkcd for helping us keep the internet in perspective with this online communities map.
As you can see, Facebook is the new superpower to contend with. Now we just need to wait for Diaspora to go to war with the Great Satan of social networks.
Some of you reading this probably spend more time traveling the internet these days than on the road – the map might help you from getting completely lost inside your computer.
We all need to get a life again.
